Description:

The Moving Out Collection is about taking stories of failure and unworthiness and turning them on their heads! I grew up poor and part of growing up poor for me was moving 10 times before I reached the age of 16, including being evicted twice, living in a barn (a nice one, albeit) and a garage with my 6 siblings. That instability and uncertainty followed me into adulthood. Shortly before the pandemic, I started painting as a way to have something just for me, but it grew into a passion for telling stories through visual art of all sorts! The specific materials used in this collection are packing materials to signify the moving I did, but they also signify ephemeral things. Cardboard, tape and other packing materials are considered trash after they’ve been used once or twice, but you and I are more than that, more than our stories, especially the negative ones. I aim to take the things I grew up being embarrassed and even ashamed of and flipping them on their heads to make something beautiful! You can too! Start telling new, better stories to yourself now….not tomorrow!
